Common questions

How Etsy's fees actually work

Short, plain-English answers to the questions every Etsy seller asks once they start running the numbers.

A flat $0.20 per listing — paid the moment you publish it. The listing stays live for four months or until the item sells, whichever comes first, and then renews for another $0.20 (you can switch off auto-renew in your shop settings if you'd rather control this manually).
Etsy treats the entire order — item price plus shipping plus gift wrap — as one taxable revenue line and skims 6.5% off the top. Sales tax that Etsy collects on behalf of the buyer is excluded. It's a flat percentage worldwide, regardless of your shop's size.
This is the fee Etsy Payments collects for handling the money movement. US sellers pay 3% of the order total plus a fixed $0.25 per transaction. Other countries are different — Germany sits around 4% + €0.30, the UK 4% + £0.20, and so on. The percentage always applies to the full order including shipping.
Only when an order is directly attributed to one of Etsy's external ad placements (Google, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.). The rate is 15% of the order total if your shop has done less than $10,000 in revenue over the last 365 days, and drops to 12% above that threshold. Shops that cross $10k are auto-enrolled and can't opt out.
These four cover the vast majority of what shows up on a normal order. You may also see currency conversion fees if you sell in a currency other than your bank account's, an optional Etsy Ads cost if you run on-platform ads, regulatory operating fees in some EU countries, and Pattern subscription fees if you've signed up for that. None of those four are factored into this calculator.
